On November 11, 2022, the Robust Engineers team put their structural design skills to the ultimate test at the SAICE Highveld Bridge Building Competition. The groundwork for our success was laid a full week prior to the main event, with the team dedicating hours of planning and crafting to construct our model stick bridge. This early preparation ensured that the adhesive had sufficient time to cure perfectly and that the truss geometry was completely rigid ahead of the competition.
The competition floor brought together a talented lineup from across the industry, featuring formidable contender teams such as Sasol 1, KBK, Jones and Wagener, and Megchem.

During the load-testing phase, crowd anticipation mounted and the tension in the room grew palpable. Our bridge held remarkably resilient under intense, escalating pressure, ultimately withstanding a massive maximum failure load of 62.3kg. This exceptional performance comfortably earned the team a well-deserved second-place finish on the podium.
